Dr. Demetris Demetriou is a Transport Planner/Engineer and a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) expert. He holds four degrees: MEng in Rural and Surveying Engineering; MSc(Eng.) in Transport Planning and Engineering; MSc in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and a PhD in Planning and Decision Support Systems from the University of Leeds (UK). He has around 24 years of multi discipline experience in the fields of transport planning engineering, rural planning, land use planning, GIS and Planning Support Systems. In particular, Demetris’ experience involves: sustainable mobility planning; project management in governmental rural development projects; research (including Horizon 2020 EU funded projects) and as a consultant in private civil, surveying and transport engineering firms. The last 10 years, Demetris focuses on developing research which is mainly focused on integrating GIS with artificial intelligence methods for developing planning and decision support systems. He has authored a series of journal articles, book chapters and conference papers and is also a reviewer for several international journals. He has been working in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works since 2014 as a transport planner, specialised in Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and he is also a Visiting Research Fellow (2013-2020) at the University of Leeds in the Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy. He is the Project Manager for the Limassol SUMP (2017-2019) and the Coordinator of TrACE (Transport Analytics Centre of Excellence) project funded from Horizon 2020.
